Project History

Through a providential meeting in May 2009 Markus Setiawan first learned about medical missionary work from Marcial Leano in Silang, Philippines.  The following year Markus and his family planed to go to the Philippines to study at our program in the Philippines.  God had a better plan.  After 3 times of asking for the details it was decided to try a training in Indonesia.  In October 2010 the Djami family and Leono’s came to conduct a one-month LIGHT training at the campus of the 1000 missionary campus.  Eighteen people attended and a vision was born.  The vision was to have a permanent medical missionary training center.  LIGHT committed to help make that dream become a reality.  The ideal location was Java and people the team started praying earnestly.  The team of 11 people throughout Java from December 2010 to November 2011 doing medical missionary work.  During their travels they meet two men how shared the vision of a permanent training center.  Mr. Bambang and Dr. Supit had both already been thinking about such a center.  On July 31, 2010 after a series of meetings the Healing Way Medical Missionary School was officially organized.  The conference then agreed to let the center use the old boys dormitory at East Java Academy for 5 years.  The team had  only $200 to start the renovation but the LORD miraculously provided for the team to completely renovate the buildings.  On January 15, 2012 the school was inaugurated and 30 students are currently preparing for a one-year commitment in the mission field.
